Abbey Baptist Church, Reading

A place of prayer A place of discovery A place of refuge

Are you new?

Welcome to our website.  We're really pleased you've come to see what's going on and we hope you find something that suits you here.

We have many things happening at the church.  Below is some information that should help you get a better idea of what's on and what's for you.  We hope this will encourage you to explore the rest of our website too.

          Getting to the church

You can find our church between Reading's tallest building - the Blade - and Central Library.  We're on Abbey Square, just off the King's Road.  Parking is limited, but we're within walking distance of the railway station and close to a number of bus routes.

          Accessible church

We aim to make our church as accessible as possible for everyone.  We have ramp access to both main floors and a couple of wheel chairs for anyone that needs them.  Hearing aid loops are in place on the ground and lower ground levels.

          What to expect

Our international, inter-cultural Sunday morning worship starts at 10.30am.

We make use of both paper service sheets (translated into various languages) and a digital projector to guide us. Our style of worship is what is known as 'blended worship' (making use of the best of the old and the best of the new) and the services usually last an hour and a quarter.

Jesus, Scripture and Prayer is at the heart of all that we do.  Following the example of Jesus, we aim to make the message accessible to everyone.  For those who are unable to join us, worship sheets are also available online to use at home at a time that suits them.

We're a friendly group of people of different nationalities, who come together to worship the Lord and seek to know Him better and serve Him in Reading town centre.

     During the week

Our current weekly activities include a Toddlers Group, Renew Wellbeing (a warm space for coffee, crafts, games) and iCaf (English language conversation).

We also meet for prayer and Bible study.

          Diving into Faith

We're all in different places with our faith, some just starting to explore what Christianity means, while others are delving deeper into their faith having been a Christian for many years.  Wherever we are on the journey, we are there to help each other to learn and grow.

We believe that Jesus is Lord in our lives, that we can depend on His Word and that together we are His Church.  We believe that when we make the choice to follow Jesus, we should follow His example and be baptised as a symbol of our choice to follow Him.  If you'd like to find out more about what baptism means, speak to our Minister or one of our leaders - they'll be happy to talk about it.
